  • Is the Japan Rail Pass Worth the Money? 1 week ago A question I get almost on a daily basis is: Is the Japan Rail Pass worth it? Short answer: Yes, for long distance travelling (e.g. a round trip from Tokyo to Kyoto). Ok, ok. You want the long answer, right? :)   What is the Japan Rail Pass? In Japan the most convenient way to […] The post Is...
  • Onsen Etiquette: Don't make these 8 mistakes in a Japanese Hot Spring! 2 weeks ago Enjoying a Japanese hot spring is something you don’t want to miss when visiting the country. Japan is blessed with onsen (温泉 / ♨) thanks to its many volcanoes. The hot water origins from geothermally heated springs. This is different from Japanese sento (銭湯) which are public bath...
  • From Kanto to Kansai: Kumano Kodo + Nakasendo (Autumn 2017) 3 weeks ago This was probably my longest Japan trip ever since 2007. Either I lived in Japan or my trips were partly business trips to Japan, so I barely could add 1-1,5 weeks of private vacation afterwards. 3 weeks is a very good time frame for a Japan trip in general – if you can afford it. […] The post...
  • Omamori - Japanese Lucky Charms 4 weeks ago People often ask me what you can actually do at a Japanese shrine or temple. Apart from the buildings that can be very impressive – at least to the Western eye – there are quite a few things you can do. Meticulously designed and maintained, Zooming Japan is an informative and engaging blog focused on life in and travel within Japan. The blogger, Jasmine T., has a friendly writing-style, and her photography makes you feel as though you're right in Japan. Recently she has begun to include a "Tourist Information" box below her entries. This feature is quite useful as it provides data regarding fees, opening hours, access, and more. I am a long-time subscriber and admirer of the Zooming Japan blog. Reading about the various items, festivals, shrines, and aspects of daily life makes me look forward to my own trip to Japan. I appreciate all of the time and effort Jasmine T. puts into producing her blog entries, each of which is packed with photos and knowledge. If you're interested in Japan and travel, definitely give this blog a visit.
