  • Spanish Siesta: Not What You Think It Is 6 years ago The Spanish Siesta is a Myth I’ve always thought the reason the Spanish siesta exists is due to the hot weather in Spain. After all, when it’s so hot, you want to escape the heat and take a little rest to re-energize. As it turns out, this is a myth, or at the very least, not the… The post...
  • Don Antonio and the best pizza in Valencia 6 years ago It was a pretty spring day in Valencia, warm with a nice breeze. I walked to barrio Ensanche to try what I’d read was the best pizza in Valencia. When I arrived, I saw a fire in the Italian domed and tiled oven. I had a good feeling about this place. It was 13:00, opening time according… The...
  • Andalucía - Exploring Southern Spain 6 years ago Andalucía Earlier this year, we took a trip to the south of Spain, to visit Andalucía. This region is responsible for many of the stereotypes associated with Spain. E.g., flamenco, bullfighting, and the Moorish influenced architecture (it was under Moorish rule from the 8th-15th centuries). As we...
  • Our Favorite Methods To Learn Spanish 7 years ago Updated 1 May 2020. We get asked a lot – how’s your Spanish? (current status: B1/B2) Which is inevitably followed by, how are you learning? So, we thought we’d give an update on our progress, our experiences, and share our favorite methods to learn Spanish. We arrived in Spain in July of...
  • 4 Days in Madrid & Toledo 7 years ago Last weekend was the Feast of the Immaculate Conception holiday in Spain, and we took advantage of the 4-day weekend to take a quick trip to Madrid. Thanks to the AVE high speed train, which goes up to 310 kph (192 mph), we made it from Valencia to Madrid in under 2 hours. Madrid, Capital of...

These days I find myself thinking about what is goodness and courage and how to live a meaningful life. This blog resonates with my mindset. Having been an expat myself — I lived in London for over a decade and have recently returned to Valencia— , I appreciate the value of this blog even more. Heather and Eddie's story is not useful only for those of you who are thinking about an adventure in Spain but also for us locals. We Spaniards take for granted many things: the warmth weather, the healthy food, the colourful traditions, the ancient history, the hidden gems in our cities, the beauty of our language, the wealth of resources and leisure activities … Reading this blog is helping me to pause and appreciate our community and my identity. I met Heather and Eddie in a language exchange here in Valencia. They are genuinely nice people. Please keep telling us about your journey! Lots of Love.
