A British expat landlord in Spain has won a lengthy legal battle against a tenant who failed to pay rent for two years.

Sixty-six-year-old Dave Lomas from Middlesbrough can finally breathe a sigh of relief after his non-paying tenant was ordered to move out of the premises in Campillos, southern Spain, by 10 March. This came after a two-year legal struggle in which Lomas fought for the tenant to be evicted.

Lomas, who even staged a one-man protest outside his property in November, might have his home back but he is unlikely to ever see any of the 10,000 euros he is owed in rent.

The Englishman admitted that he didn’t think he would ever see the money he was owed because the man had already shown how “shrewd” he was by managing to remain living in the house for two years without paying a single penny in rent.

Now the non-paying tenant has been booted out, Lomas revealed his ex-wife would be moving into the house which they purchased together in 2008.
