The Emirati women facing charges for murdering US kindergarten teacher Ibolya Ryan in Abu Dhabi last week has no connections to any terrorist groups, an official security source has said.

The woman, believed to be in her late thirties, is suspected of brutally murdering the nursery school teacher in the ladies toilets in the Boutik Mall on Reem Island. She is also suspected of leaving a homemade bomb outside the residence of an Egyptian-American doctor which police managed to defuse before it went off.

However, Abu Dhabi state news agency Wam reported that the security source said there was no link to any terrorist organisations and that it was a “personal terrorist act” carried out by the woman. The source explained that there was nothing to suggest any affiliation with any terrorist groups of political parties that may have led to them inciting her to act in such a way.

The source went on to say that the investigation revealed the suspect had recently been looking at terrorist websites which may have resulted in her taking on a terrorism ideology. She also learnt how to make explosives, but the seized materials that authorities confiscated were primitive, added the source.

According to the source, the suspect had not gone out to kill anyone of a particular nationality, just someone who had a foreign appearance in terms of colour and language. The source added that her victims were selected randomly.
