As reported by the Shropshire Star, a Shropshire mechanic put almost £50,000 into his dream house after leaving his hometown to build a new life in Spain, but has now revealed the dream has turned into a nightmare.

Martin Wade, aged 41, says he has now been left penniless and is now having to cancel his wedding to his partner of four years, 29-year-old Abigail Wesson, after an enourmous hole opened up under their mountain cave property in Fuente Nueva, Orce.

Mr Wade bought the home nearly 30 months ago for 24,000 euros. One part of the property goes into a cave, while the entire house had mud floors and zero running water or electricity when they purchased it.

The couple spent another 31,000 euros converting it into their dream house. But Mr Wade has now been forced to leave amid fears the house will collapse into the large hole which has already taken over the garden.

The couple say that faulty pipe work had led to the ground under their home to become soft and unstable. They are paying 450 euros every month to rent a property about 40 minutes away to secure their belongings.

The couple was due to get married in September but have postponed the big day as they cannot afford it any longer.
