Canada’s thriving jobs market, strong economy and world-beating quality of life make it one of the most rewarding locations for relocating professionals looking for the expat dream.

The contrasting beauty of Canada’s many regions has made it a hub for tourism as well as emigration from the UK for decades, but many professionals haven’t considered it seriously as a location for career advancement as well as an enjoyable lifestyle. However, those who’ve researched further have come to realise they’ve made the right choice as regards their careers and are happily discovering the many plus points of this unique country.

As if two oceans, the Rocky Mountains, Niagara Falls, the stunning Great Lakes, ancient forests and dramatic tundras aren’t enough, Canada’s 21st century cities are packed with everything an expat or emigrant needs to feel at home. An exceptional healthcare system, top-quality education to university level and beyond, excellent, affordable childcare, reliable transportation and well-maintained road networks all combine to offer a seamless adjustment for workers arriving from overseas.

Deciding where to call home in this massive country isn’t an easy decision if there’s no waiting job, but starting out in one of the major cities is the best idea if you’re looking for work. However, would-be expats are advised to find work before they arrive, as work permits can be tricky to get. Toronto is a good place to start, with its culture, arts and healthy lifestyle. Another option is Calgary, set in the west of the country and overlooked by the magnificent Rockies, and many expats head for Montreal, Ottawa or Vancouver.

The Canadian weather needs some adjustment, even for the British, as winters tend to be very long and very cold. Coping with serious ice and snow takes some getting used to, but the infrastructure is more than adequate and those who aren’t keen on compulsory winter sports should head for the warmer cities close to the USA border.

Canada’s not a cheap destination, with city living requiring a decent salary and preferably benefits as well. For long-term relocation as a family, becoming residents opens the door to high-class free education, and the country’s Medicare system can also be made available to expats. In general, the Canadian lifestyle is high quality and safe, with the country always scoring highly in international expat surveys. Many expats from the UK who first arrived on contracts have decided to stay on a permanent basis as they were more than happy with the country's long-term offerings for them and their families.
