As uncertainty over the fate of UK expats in the EU continues unabated, a furiously angry expat Mum is refusing to relocate her family to ‘small-minded’ Britain.

Enraged mother Carrie Frais is raising her family in Spain and has totally rejected the possibility of moving back to the UK as it’s in no way the Britain she left. She’s equally angry about the way British citizens were pushed into voting to leave without any details of what the decision would mean, both economically and for those who’d decided to relocate to EU countries.

Barcelona-based Frais is the founder of popular expat website MumAbroadSpain, having arrived in the country in 2004 and finally settled in full-time after marrying and having her first child. A second baby followed, as did her inspiration as regards helping other newly arrived expat Mums find their way around their new country of residence. The website is an invaluable mine of information on everything from international schools through childrens’ activities and child-friendly restaurants to local events and more, and now covers the whole of Spain.

At this crucial point in time, she’s speaking for many British expat mothers, all of whom have chosen to bring up their children away from what she’s christened ‘ small-minded Britain’. She’s also concerned about British entrepreneurs’’ investments in the country and Brexit’s effect on tourism and property values. In an interview with The Local, she said she’d been truly shocked by the referendum result, pointing out the subsequent weakening of sterling is already causing financial stress for expat retirees and those on UK state pensions.

One fact she’s absolutely certain of is that she will never, ever, return to the UK under any circumstances. If there’s a choice between Britain and somewhere else, she says, she and her family will head for the ‘somewhere else’. The UK, she adds, is a totally different country than the one she left and has lost its place in the world as a cradle of tolerance and democracy. Bringing her two children up in such a country, she insists, is simply not going to happen.
