An expat woman in Saudi Arabia has received a four-month jail term and 30 lashes after being convicted of threatening her brother and his wife.

The court in Jeddah has ordered that the woman is psychologically evaluated at a mental hospital.

The ruling comes after the women’s sister-in-law informed police that she had told her and her husband she would throw acid on them. She maintained that she knew of no reason why the woman would behave in such a manner, but said that her son’s fingers had acid burns on them too.

The accused woman confessed she had threatened the couple with acid following a disagreement with her brother about a piece of land in their home country. The judge has also ruled that the woman is deported after serving her prison sentence.
