Singapore tops the list of best place for expats

Singapore has once again claimed top spot in the world’s most liveable city for expats in the latest list published by ECA International.
ECA International’s regional director for Asia, Lee Quane, explained that among the factors that led to Singapore taking top spot were solid infrastructure, good quality air, low crime, decent medical facilities and low health risks. Meanwhile, Singapore’s main rival for first position in recent times, Hong Kong, has fallen from 17th to 33rd in the list, a fact that is likely to boost the country when it comes to companies considering where to set up in Asia.
ECA studies 450 locations worldwide on an annual basis, looking at factors such as availability of health services, climate, infrastructure, political tensions, personal safety, air quality, isolation, housing and utilities, and access to leisure and social network facilities.
The Australian cities of Sydney and Adelaide took second and third spots respectively.
Meanwhile, Shanghai was ranked China’s most liveable city but came in a lowly 110th globally, while Beijing finished 122nd. Chinese cities recorded similar scores to recent years, but Shenzhen and Chongqing both saw notable improvements over the past 12 months.
Bangalore was named as India’s most liveable city, with Mumbai and Chennai completing the top three spots. The capital New Delhi was the country’s least liveable city of the locations assessed, coming in 204th position globally.
