In an attempt to gather information about British expats’ Brexit concerns, the British ambassador to France is to undertake a meetings tour around the country.

According to the embassy’s website, ambassador Lord Ed Llewellyn is preparing to tour around France meeting with UK expats worried about their post-Brexit status in the country. The tour will take in Paris, Nice, Brittany, Charente and le Var, with its organisers hoping to meet with a good number of the 150,000 Brits resident in France.

According to the ambassador’s recent Facebook post, he and his team have done their best over the past several months to engage with British citizens living in France on the subject of the UK’s divorce from the European Union. He adds the tour will be an opportunity to update concerned UK citizens about the progress of the Brexit negotiations. He notes the fifth round of talks have now finished, and is eager to hear expats’ concerns and answer their questions.

Five meetings between now and Christmas will be held as open forums, beginning in Nice on 7 November and continuing to St Raphael on the 23rd. The Gouarec region of Brittany is next on 27 November, followed by Paris on the 6th December and Poitou Charentes on the 11th. For some meetings, limited spaces will be available, with those interested in attending advised to sign up as soon as possible.

It’s expected the ambassador will be given a rough ride at the meetings, especially given the negative reaction to a recently posted video reassuring Brits in France over the progress of the negotiations. A torrent of furious replies was the response, with one expat stating ‘actions count and nothing has been seen to date’. He added people all over France and in other EU countries are ‘petrified about their futures’, calling the government’s stance intransigent and saying it’s causing stress-related illnesses all across the expat community.
