A Belgian national dubbed ‘Europe’s biggest pimp’ has been arrested in the Spanish resort town of Torremolinos.

Stefan Rene faces charges of heading a prostitution ring that spans the continent. He was picked up by the Guardia Civil after a Moroccan woman who worked for him told Belgian authorities where he was staying after he reportedly beat her and burnt her with a cigarette.

Rene’s million-euro network was established in Malaga, southern Spain, and operates on the Costa del Sol, in Eastern Europe and in Belgium. The organisation often caters for high end customers staying in plush hotels or on luxurious yachts.

The Belgian allegedly had plans to expand his operations to Barcelona, Ibiza, France and Denmark before the end of this year.

Rene sourced clients on a number of different websites offering girls, predominantly from Romania, who had travelled to Belgium and the Costa del Sol to work for him.

The girls would cost around 200 euros, according to a spokesperson from the Guardia Civil, with Rene taking 50 euros for himself each time. On average, the girls would ‘perform’ five times a day, bringing in more than 1.3 million euros a year for the organisation.

Three other men have been detained, while 20 girls are being quizzed by police.
