An Asian expat faces three years in jail in Qatar after forging an engineering degree in order to change his profession.

A criminal court sentenced the Bangladeshi man to three years in prison in absentia for submitting a fake engineering degree from a Bangladeshi university. The man also forged the seal of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Dhaka and forged the signature of an official at the embassy.

However, the man was found out when he took the fake documents, from the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, to the Qatari foreign ministry in the Bangladeshi capital. A woman employee suspected the degree was forged and filed a complaint, with a forensic test later confirming that the seal was fake.

After a police complaint was filed, the man was questioned and charged in a court of law. He confessed that he paid the equivalent of US$275 for the forged degree. The man admitted that he forged the degree so he could change his profession for future benefits.
