As reported by the Daily Mail, in the fifth attack on wealthy expatriates in Algarve, Portugal, this month, raiders tied up and beat two UK pensioners in their £8 million villa.

The robbers tied up the aged couple, who are both into their 70s, with tape and bludgeoned the husband on the head using a golf club. The attackers then rummaged through the house, taking off with jewellery, money and other valuable belongings.

The husband is at a Lisbon hospital now recovering from 'severe' head injuries. The attack is just one of many to affect the upmarket area.

A UK woman revealing herself as Anna, whose fancy Vale do Lobo estate was robbed last month, spoke of the terrifying moment when she was targeted. Armed robbers escaped with her valuables, before attacking her over her head with a weapon, she told Portuguese media.

She said that one of the attackers was shouting at her to show him where she kept money and jewellery. Once she had shown them her valuables, they started demanding her where her safe was, she said. When she kept telling them she did not have a safe, which was when she was hit over the head, added Anna.
