As the effects pf the coronavirus pandemic continue to blight expats’ and citizens’ lives across Spain’s favourite destinations, there’s better news for those on regular prescriptions.

Many expats and locals who’re on prescriptions for existing conditions have been worried about renewing them whilst on lockdown and unable to get to their local doctor’s surgery. Luckily, a local Facebook group known as Coronavirus in Andalusia has organised a safe way to get new medications, simply by calling the local health department and identifying your needs. The department will then load the new prescription onto your card without you’re needing to visit your doctor.

The scheme both assists local health centres as well as allowing patients to avoid coming into contact with others who may be infected, simply by calling 955 54 5060 from anywhere in Spain. It’s another great idea, but with only one drawback – the responders only speak Spanish. As yet, an English language version isn’t available, meaning those wishing to use the service will need to get help from a bilingual relative or friend.

Another kind man has posted on the group’s Facebook account, informing his expat and local tenants he won’t be collecting next month’s rent, thus helping those who’re now not working due to the lockdown and those who’re forced to stay home in order to slow the spread of the virus. He’s calling for all local landlords to do the same, adding the community should do all it can to help others during these difficult times. Other rental property owners in the group have already agreed to do the same.
