British expats in Spain are expressing their anger and disgust at an online video showing a dog being dumped on the roadside by its owner.

It’s well known that, in Spain as well as across the world, dogs are considered man’s best friend and deserve love, affection and care. However, according to a heart-breaking online video showing a woman dumping a dog by the side of a road and driving off, not all humans share those feelings. In fact, dogs are the most popular pets all across Spain, with many Spanish nationals as well as expats starting up or volunteering at the many dog shelters caring for abandoned pets.

The offending video immediately went viral on social media, provoking an outpouring of disgust and anger at the woman’s actions and even death threats. It showed the woman had two dogs in her car, both of which were pushed out. One managed to climb back in and was allowed to stay, after which the woman drove away. It’s been reported the incident took place in Mexico, not Spain, with rumours now surfacing that Mexican gang bosses have put out contracts on the heartless woman.

Thankfully, according to several online English language newspapers, the sad story ended well for the little white dog, as it was picked up and taken to a local dog shelter and was adopted by a loving new owner shortly after arrival. Social media is often blamed for ignoring reality, but this tale shows how it can be used to right wrongs and bring happiness.
