A recent survey carried out by InterNations has found one of the happiest place in the world for expats is Mexico, with 91 per cent of respondents saying they were content in their new lives.

Some 14,000 expats in 160 countries were questioned about their lives overseas, with factors such as family, work, personal finance and ease of settling in all considered.
When it came down to feeling at home, Mexico City ranked number one with expats, while the country as a whole came third in that particular list. Meanwhile, 91 per cent of respondents described settling in as easy and said they felt the locals were welcoming.

Ecuador came in first place in the overall satisfaction list, with the financial centre of Guayaquil particularly popular among expats. Some of the reasons expats were happy in the South American country were its low cost of living, relative ease to meet new people and career opportunities.

When it came to offering the best career opportunities, however, it was Zurich and Luxembourg that scored the highest, with around 40 per cent of expats relocation to the latter for job-related reasons, while the majority of those in Zurich were working in banking.

New York also scored highly in certain areas, with career opportunities, entertainment choices and friendliness of the locals among the reasons why. The large population and cultural diversity were also listed as plus points.
