Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency convened a meeting last Wednesday to consider the best ways to improve its online web pages which give information for expats in the country.

The interdepartmental meeting was attended by representatives of the expat community in Taiwan, who were invited to present ideas and suggestions which would improve the website’s services to resident expats and foreign visitors. According to the agency, the revised website will aim to make succesful living in and visiting the country more easily achieved.

At present, the Foreigners in Taiwan web pages give useful information and tips in the Chinese, Japanese and English languages. Topics covered include the various types of visa application, medical issues and available medical services, the types of expat housing available in Taipei and education options for expat children.

Information to be added after the results of the meeting are analysed is likely to include issues such as the classification of household waste and how to dispose of it, regulations concerning pet ownership and the reporting of stolen or lost passports. Other helpful hints on translation services, everyday living and residency or work permit applications are also expected.
