For expat professionals to whom shopping till they drop is one of life’s essential pleasures, a reassignment or even a short visit to Singapore is a dream come true.

The amazing city-state is a shopaholic’s dream destination, with everything from trendy bargains to upscale haute couture on offer for those earning enough to support their addiction. Singapore is one of those destinations which really does have something for everyone, and proves it through its ever increasing popularity with expats and its rising number of tourists. If you’re living in another Southeast Asian land just a short-haul flight away, visiting for a long weekend or a short vacation gives plenty of time to explore everything the city has to offer as regards retail therapy.

Starting with Orchard Road’s long boulevard crammed with everything from malls, international brand stores and local boutiques, you’ll have plenty of time to shop, dine and explore the variety of goods on display, as the street opens for business at 9 a.m. and doesn’t shut down until 10 p.m. For glitz, glamour and the world’s best musical events, Marina Bay is the place, with its malls going one better by featuring attractions such as a canal inside a store. In spite of its touristy feel, it gives an offbeat shopping experience by featuring trendy local brands unheard of in the West.

If malls are your thing, Vivo City is one of the world’s largest, set on the harbour front and offering a store for just about every brand you’ve ever heard of and a good few you haven’t. The rooftop sky park is great for taking the weight off your feet and has stunning views across the harbour to the open sea. For expats looking for unique, quirky items, Haji Lane in the city’s Arab quarter is famous for its iconic vintage stores and trending boutiques as well as foods from across Asia. If high-end is your style, Clarke Quay is your place, packed with designer stores as well as exclusive restaurants catering to those who appreciate fine dining along with the world’s most sought-after fashion items.
