A British expat in Qatar was killed at the weekend when a shipping container fell of the back of a truck onto his car, reports from the Gulf state say.

The man was said to be driving down a coastal road when a lorry leaving the port in the capital Doha turned onto the street which caused the shipping container it was transporting to become unbalanced and fell onto his car, according to an eyewitness.

The British citizen, who was reported to be 45, is believed to have been the only person in the car when the accident occurred.

The tragedy follows another death reported in Oman last week when a construction worker was killed and three others were injured to various degrees when a crane collapsed along the Old Airport Road.

Meanwhile, photos from the latest incident showed a crane arriving at the scene to remove the container, which was holding scaffolding materials, off the vehicle.
