Given the utter chaos in the British parliament over Theresa May’s Brexit deal, Brit expats in Europe are being urged to register to vote.

Former Transport Minister and British MP Jo Johnson believes it’s quite possible May will be forced to agree to a second Brexit referendum and is urging UK expats living overseas to be prepared by registering to vote. May, he says, is likely to see her draft exit deal crash to earth via a negative parliamentary vote, and will be desperately searching for a way to remain in power. Quoting May’s 2017 turnaround on the snap election as an example, he added it’s possible she will go into reverse on her statement denying the country an informed second choice on Brexit.

Chair of the Liberal Democrat party in France Paul Fisher is convinced voters will soon face crucial decisions and is not ruling out the possibilities of a general election and a peoples’ vote as well as a Votes for Life push. He’s reminding expatriates their voting rights must be annually renewed, asking those who’ve already re-registered to check their dates as well as urging expat friends and colleagues to ensure they’re enfranchised at this crucial time.

Lib-Dems in Westminster are leading cross-party political support for a Peoples’ Vote on May’s draft deal, with the vote to include an option to Remain in the EU. Recent polls are showing ever-growing support for cancelling the entire mess, as the real choice now is between remaining part of the European Union or leaving with a deal no-one seems to consider either fair or satisfactory. Fisher is also rightly pushing the fact that some 700,000 British expats were disenfranchised one way or another during the Brexit referendum vote and strongly feel they must not be excluded again. Registering to vote is fast and easy, just visit the gov.uk site and follow the instructions.
