British expats as well as holidaymakers happy with easyJet’s new voucher and refund offer.

Following expat fury as refunds were refused for cancelled flights and holidays, easyJet’s new Covid19 Help Hub is proving a success. Given that the low-cost airlines serving Spain and other European expat and visitor hubs weren’t responsible for the mass cancellations of already paid-for flights, the overall refusals to refund much-needed money caused fury amongst paying customers across the region.

EasyJet’s new response is cooling reactions down, but Ryanair’s changes to its published refund policy are having the opposite effect. Consumer support Which’s website hit out at the airline, accusing it of attempting to pressurise clients into taking vouchers rather that the required refunds. According to the airline, the vouchers are valid for 12 months, after which holders can claim refunds, but many expats are expressing doubt as to whether the airline will still be in business 12 months from now.

Airbnb has also been using credits rather than cash refunds for those prevented from leaving the UK due to the coronavirus lockdowns. These seem to be far more acceptable to users than are flight vouchers, perhaps because the majority of Airbnb clients are householders who’re also suffering from the virus’s effect on their everyday lives. Apparently, many customers are saying it’s the correct reaction to the situation, a great relief to expat hosts also suffering from a total lack of income and future bookings at the present time.
