Expats in Andalusia wondering what to do on the evening of 31st January should head for Jimera’s Bar Allioli’s huge Brexit bash.

Rather than celebrating the UK’s departure from the EU , British bar owner Paul Darwent is focusing on a tongue in cheek, alcohol fuelled celebration featuring comedy, music, poetry, traditional British nosh and bottles of the latest Brexit porter-style strong beer entitled ‘Don’t leave me this way’. The bottles bear a label depicting Boris Johnson as a ‘porter’ struggling to carry the bags of a glamorous French girl boarding a train to France.

On the menu will be Brit tapas made from beans on toast, followed by chicken vindaloo, an all-time favourite for Brits in Spain and the home country. The bash is being publicised as a cultural evening featuring a Blue Passport exhibition, a contest for the best Brexit poetry reading and guest singers giving their personal renderings of favourites such as ‘We’ll meet again’ and ‘Don’t leave me this way’ Free beer will be handed out throughout the evening, and the midnight bell will toll to the gulping down of Prosecco, and the event is certain to be multilingual, with several languages including English.

The invite offers the chance to get ‘responsibly’ pissed and its poster reassures Tory Leave supporters they’ll be welcome, although it’s unsure whether any will take Darwent up on his offer, even although it includes Bingo in eight languages and the beer’s free for an hour after midnight. For the lucky winner of the raffle, a fake blue visa will be provided, and a French expat will perform the famous Edith Piaf classic 'Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien’. Surely a night to remember, and not just for its political significance!
