  • Hankou and the Yangzi 19 hours ago “老师,老师!” I was coming back from the bakery (yes, even in China I’m addicted to bakeries!) at night when I hear someone calling “teacher, teacher!” I didn’t slow down, but eventually turned around. Yes, the man was calling me. “Sorry, how do I get to…” he started saying,...
  • The Yellow Crane Tower (黄鹤楼) 1 day ago One of the famous sights in Wuhan is the Yellow Crane Tower, on top of Snake Hill. The story goes, a crane danced on top of the tower and it inspired Cui Hao to write his poetry. The crane has long flown but the five-storey tower still offers amazing view on the Yangzi River, Wuchang, ... Related...
  • Meeting the "Family" in Wuhan 2 days ago Do you remember the first time you met your significant other’s family? Come on, I’m sure you do. Everybody does. It’s often awkward, sometime funny, sometime horrifically weird. I remember when I first met Feng’s parents—they came to Ottawa from the small Canadian town where they worked...
  • A High-Speed Ride to Southern China 3 days ago I remember riding the crowded train between Shanghai and Nanjing, a local version of the Central American chicken bus. Carts were packed, finding a free seat was like winning the lottery and you’d better not get anywhere close to the bathrooms (hint: you could smell them from across the train)....
  • The Art of Getting Around in Beijing 4 days ago Beijing is huge and very spread out, much like most North American cities. Getting from point A to point B isn’t always easy: it’s hot and the streets are jam-packed. I love reading Zhu's blog. I'm Canadian but she sheds light on my own country from her French point of view. Very honest and tackles a lot of subjects that most blogs don't. Lots of helpful expat tips as well.

Really great blog! Juliette has good writing and photography skills, with very practical information for those who are considering a permanent move to Canada from overseas. Really loved reading her posts about her trip around Central America earlier this year. A very refreshing look at a fairly well-trodden route. Keep it up!

I enjoy Zhu's blog tremendously. It provides the right balance of shared personnal experiences and useful tips and information about living in Canada, more particularly in Ottawa. It also is a great source of anecdotes and information on various travel destinations, with amazing pictures to boot! Definitely a winner in my book.
